Fireboy and Watergirl 2 game review
Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 is a multi player puzzle game in which you navigate the two characters through a labyrinth of increasingly difficult levels. Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 is a follow up to the fantastic original Fireboy and Watergirl game and is sure to keep any lover of puzzle style games happy for quite a while.
As with most puzzle games, the first few levels are actually quite easy, but as you progress through each level the next one is just a little tougher. What sets this game apart from other puzzle games is the fact that the changes to each level are very minor but increase the difficulty substantially.
How to Play
The idea behind Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 (as well as the other Fireboy and Watergirl games) is for two players to cooperate together in order to solve each level. Player one takes on the part of Watergirl and Player two takes on the part of Fireboy.
The controls to move Watergirl are W,A,S, and D. W moves Watergirl up, S moves Watergirl down, and A and D moves Watergirl left and right. Player two uses the arrow keys to move Fireboy around.
While the controls are really easy to figure out what makes Fireboy and Watergirl challenging is figuring out each level and getting the two characters to the end of the maze.
While this game is definitely designed to be a two player game, Fireboy and Watergirl episode 2 can be played by just one person. For people who like an extra challenge playing this game or any of the other Fireboy and Watergirl games by yourself can be exactly what you are looking for. Do not be fooled though, it may seem simple to move two characters at once but there are levels where doing it right can be quite tricky.
The good parts about Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 (and the other Fireboy and Watergirl games for that matter) is that it is very easy to get going but increases in challenge at a nice pace. You don’t ever feel like anything is too hard, but none of the levels are too easy either. When you talk about game design, this is honestly one of the best thought out games you will ever play.
Aside from the excellent game design, Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 is also a really good multi-player game. Where most multi-player games tend to be competitive, Fireboy and Watergirl episode 2 actually is cooperative. It’s nice to see a game where the object is working together instead of beating one another up.
This isn’t a knock on games like Street Fighter II flash, but it is good to see something that encourages working together with someone to win.
While most newer video games tend to rely on flashy graphics to make them appealing, Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 use a different approach. While the graphics of the game are simple and may turn off some players, the truth is this game doesn’t need state of the art graphics.
Because Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 is very well designed, it doesn’t have to make itself into anything other than a solid game. If you like flashy games, none of the Fireboy and Watergirl games are for you, but if you can ignore the lack of over the top graphics, then you will find a very good game.
In the end Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 is a very well designed game that offers any lover of puzzle style games a new and exciting challenge. While Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 is not the flashiest game on the planet, it really doesn’t need to be.
This game is perfect for people who like cooperative multi-player games and can easily be played by a single person as well. While none of the Fireboy and Watergirl games will necessarily get your pulse pounding with excitement, they will give you a great way to spend a couple of hours as you use your brains to overcome each level.
Too often we let the looks of a game make our decisions for us and when we do we can miss out on some really great games. If you think back to the earliest console games such as Space Invaders you will realize the graphics are not what make a game. What makes a game good is the game play and Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 has game play in spades.
If you are looking for a very good puzzle style game to play with a friend or by yourself, then you must take the time to check out not only Fireboy and Watergirl Episode 2 but all the Fireboy and Watergirl games. Don’t pass this game up just because it doesn’t have fancy graphics, you will miss out on a very good game.
